Description

this item is now sold!

A matching pair of hand-held brass lanterns with tapered handles and vented domed tops, typical of portable lanterns used in the late 19th to early 20th century. The bodies are fitted with etched glass panels, each engraved with a stylised foliate motif, and protected by simple cross-bar frames.

The brass has developed a natural, warm patina, consistent with age and use. Both lanterns retain their original hinged doors and construction details, and were originally designed to house oil burners before later electrical use became common.

These are practical, well-proportioned lanterns with a strong utilitarian feel. Ideal for decorative display, shelves, or as atmospheric accent pieces, particularly in interiors that suit maritime, industrial, or traditional detailing.

Sold as a pair.
